Scarecrow Wreath Tutorial

We are back with another adorable fall project! Today I’m making a super fun scarecrow wreath using the scarecrow we painted last time. I can’t wait for you guys to see how it turns out!

I haven’t made a full wreath for you all in a long time and I thought it was time! I am so excited about this project. I painted an adorable scarecrow face wood cut out last time we were together. Now I am using him as the focal point in this adorable scarecrow wreath. If you missed the painting post be sure to check it out, it was a lot of fun! I used a cute ribbon as my color inspiration for the painting and I’m going to add that into the wreath to tie it all together.

How to Make a Scarecrow Wreath

Wreath making is my passion, I love it so much. I just don’t have as much time for it as I used to. I am in no way complaining though, I am so grateful for all of you and for the success of our business! Sometimes, however, it’s important to do the things you really enjoy. I had so much fun creating this wreath!

When you watch the video you’ll see that I could’ve kept going with this wreath. I could have added some sunflowers or yellow daisies to match the ribbon I chose. If you love that idea, go for it! You could also add some other kinds of fall foliage. Some pretty leaves or fall grasses would also be super pretty. Since this is a scarecrow wreath you could also add raffia for some fun texture that would mimic straw. The sky’s the limit you guys, have fun with it!

With this wreath you will need to attach your cute scarecrow face to the frame. To do this you will need to staple some pipe cleaners to the back of the cut out. Anytime you secure pipe cleaners to a wreath sign pay close attention to the thickness of the sign. When you staple the pipe cleaners on you need to make sure that they don’t pop through the front of the sign and ruin it. If your sign is thin no worries! All you need to do is glue a square of craft foam to the spot you’ll be attaching your pipe cleaners. The foam will add the thickness you need to make sure the staple won’t pop through. Easy peasy!

Scarecrow Wreath Supply List

• Scarecrow face wooden cut out (painted — Check out our paint-by-line tutorial for the scarecrow face)
• Wreath frame (14” or 16”)
• 21” turquoise mesh
• 10” orange foiled mesh
• 2.5” wired burlap ribbon
• 2.5” wired scarecrow ribbon
• 1.5” wired green ribbon
• 1.5” wired plaid ribbon
• Green tubing
• Orange tubing
• Super glue (Dap)
• Craft foam
• Staple gun
• Pipe cleaners
• Hot glue
• Ribbon tail board
• Scissors
• Rotary cutter

How to Make a Scarecrow Wreath Instructions

1. Take the 21” mesh and, starting on the bottom rung of the wreath frame, attach it to one of the twist ties. Now, make a 10” poof then attach mesh to the next twist tie. Continue around the bottom rung of the frame. Then, repeat along the top rung.
2. Next, take the orange mesh and use the rotary cutter to cut 18 10” strips. Roll each into a loose curl and attach one to each twist tie.
3. Use the ribbon tail board to cut 9 14” tails of each of the 4 ribbons. Dove tail the ends.
4. Now grab your scarecrow. Flip him over and glue a square of craft foam to two points on the back. Use the staple gun to attach a pipe cleaner to each square. Next, use hot glue to secure them in place.
5. Attach the scarecrow to the right side of the wreath using the pipe cleaners that you attached to it.
6. Now take one tail of the burlap ribbon and place one tail of the plaid ribbon on top of it. Fold them in half and attach to one of the twist ties. Now do the same with a scarecrow ribbon tail and green ribbon tail. Now put that in the next twist tie. Continue alternating the tails like this until all the twist ties are full.
7. Now cut 18 21” strips of both the green and orange tubing.
8. Put one of each color together and form a loop. Attach the loops to each twist tie on the wreath.
