How to Decorate Pumpkin Wreath Rail

Pumpkin spice lattes just don’t have that same feeling without a beautiful autumn wreath hanging on the front door. That’s why I decided to make my own DIY teal pumpkin wreath rail. It turned out great and it is the perfect finishing touch for my fall front door!

The other thing I love about this project is how many different styles it can be made in depending on your ideas and materials available at home- whether you want something rustic or elegant- there. But I am going to show you the way I am designing mine, but I love to inspire you to make whatever makes you the happiest for your home or someone else’s!

Make your own Teal Pumpkin Wreath Rail

  1. First you are going to put down your pipe cleaners in a straight line along your sign attachment rail. I use 3 along the bottom of the rail and 2 in the middle, so 5 pipe cleaners in total will do the trick.
  2. Then you are going to attach your mesh. I grabbed my 10” orange deco mesh and proceeded to measure out 15” of each piece and cut with my rotary cutter. There are going to be 5 pieces in total. Next I will take one piece and scrunch it together like a bow and in the middle of the bow I twist it into the pipe cleaner. I repeated this 5 so that each pipe cleaner has a mesh bow in it.
  3. Just as a little piece of advice, overlap your edges on your mesh to make more coverage on your mesh bow! And if you want more coverage add more pipe cleaners and a couple more mesh bows.
  4. Now it’s time to make a super cute bow!
  5. Next cut 5- 12” ribbon tails of the Leopard Ribbon. Fold the tails in half and pinch the center together. Attach the center pinch to a twist tie on the wreath frame. Spread out your center tails in Xs and then Ks at both ends.
  6. Then cut another 5- 12” ribbon tails of the Teal and Gold Foil Leaf Ribbon. Fold the tails in half and pinch the center together. Attach the center pinch to a twist tie on the wreath frame. Spread out your center tails in Xs and then Ks at both ends
  7. To add some texture and bring out all of the colors to your design, start by cutting 5- 20” of brown tubing, take two pieces and make it  into a lasso. Pinch the middle to make a bow, lay straight on the twist tie and twist it in. Repeat this to all of the twist ties. I don’t like to cut my pipe cleaners so I wrap them in my finger and make a curl for the ends.
  8. This one I am not going to add a bow to, but an optional step is to add one. I would take each of the ribbons I have on a hand and design a bow and add in with an extra pipe cleaner.
