Crafting for the winter holidays is starting to wrap up and we are heading into prepping for the next seasons. Today I’m showing you how to make an adorable Valentine heart wreath rail that you’re going to love!

Valentine’s Day isn’t one of the biggest holidays of the year but it sure is one of the cutest! Today I’m making a Valentine heart wreath rail that is based on the conversation heart candies. Too cute! I’m doing the XOXO heart but we also have several other options like “Cutie Pie”. You get the idea, just like the cute boxes of candy there’s a lot of variety. In the video below I show you how to dress up one of these adorable rails so it is all ready for the season of love! I add some deco mesh, fabulous ribbons, and some tubing. The results are adorable!

How to Make a Valentine Heart Wreath Rail

So you may think I’m nuts to be thinking about Valentine’s Day at this point in the year but as a creative and a maker you always have to be a season ahead. I know many of you sell your fabulous creations and I want to make sure that I’m helping you get ready for the next season. That means we will be working on some awesome Valentine, Mardi Gras, and St. Patrick’s Day creations soon! There is never a dull moment (or season) when you are a maker and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

For this project I use the traditional pink and red Valentine colors but remember that conversation hearts come in lots of colors. If you choose to paint this wreath rail yourself you could use any of those fun shades as your base color. When you are picking out your ribbon colors and patterns just pull from the paint colors on your rail and you will be all set. It’s just like accessorizing an outfit, pick colors that complement each other and you’ll have a beautiful creation.

You can definitely hang this wreath rail on your door or even your wall. However, if you are looking for a different way to display your creations we also have a wooden stand that will hold one of our wreath rails perfectly! That way you can display these on a shelf or other flat surface and really spice up your holiday decor. However you decide to display this adorable project it is sure to be a hit!

Valentine Heart Wreath Rail Supply List

Wreath Rail Instructions

  1. Start by adding 6 pipe cleaners along the center rail.
  2. Next, take the end of the 21” mesh and gather it to make a ruffle. Add that ruffle to the pipe cleaner on one end of the rail. Continue making 10” poofs along the rest of the rail until all the pipe cleaners are full.
  3. Now use the rotary cutter to cut 6 10” strips of the 10” mesh. Roll them into loose curls and attach one to each pipe cleaner.
  4. Next use the ribbon tail board to cut 6 tails of two of the 2.5” ribbons. (I use the harlequin and pink with gold). Dovetail the ends then place one of each tail on top of each other and fold them in half. Pinch at the center and add to one set to each pipe cleaner.
  5. Cut 6 20” strips of each color tubing. Put one of each together, make a loop and add one set to each pipe cleaner.
  6. Now it’s time to make the bow! Use the spool board and start with one of the 2.5” ribbons. Measure a 12” tail and make 4 6” loops. Repeat this process with a 1.5” ribbon, then again with the second 2.5” ribbon, again with the third 2.5” ribbon, then again with the second 1.5” ribbon. Finally make one loop with the jelly ribbon.
  7. Next, twist the ends of two pipe cleaners together and then use them to secure the center of your bow. Twist them off.
  8. Now use the pipe cleaners on your bow to push through the mesh and attach them to the center of the wreath rail. Trim the ends of your ribbon and you’re all done!

I hope you guys love this project as much as I do. It is so fun to get out all the pinks and reds and make something pretty! This adorable conversation heart wreath rail makes a great addition to your Valentine’s Day decor. It is also a great addition to your business page or craft show line up.
